How to be an alien is an international exhibition that gathers the works of different foreign students currently living and studying in Poznan.
The name makes reference to how the artists, as foreigners in Poland, have the feeling of being “aliens”. Although all the artists come from different countries and, therefore, perceive each situation differently, the fact of being foreigners connects them, establishing a relationship. This relationship entails the basis of the exhibition, which looks for all the foreigners to identify with the artists and feel the same connection, and for the locals to understand how us, foreign students, experience our time abroad. Their works have been created out of various experiences and emotions, such as not speaking the same language, being new to the local culture and traditions, feeling alone and homesick… and are also very different in material and technique, which makes of this exhibition a rich whole of artwork, feelings and nationalities. The pieces are very expressive and hold a very close and universal meaning with which the viewers will identify easily.
